Testimonials
As a biologist with 15 years experience in ecology, genetics, and evolution I can testify that there is increasing evidence for the harmful effects of ionizing radiation. This can involve not only point mutations to DNA sequences but also larger structural changes in the genome. Thus, proper tools for minimizing radiation exposure, such as those offered by IQ(D) Protocol which optimizes image quality and radiation dose, are highly desirable.
I’ve come to learn about Josip’s work through the years I have known him. He is a very intelligent man who is absolutely dedicated to his work. Josip is highly motivated to invent a technique to better diagnose x-ray radiation and doses. He is an amazing man, he is always genuine and a character.
Dr. Nosil played a key role in making the Foothills Hospital one of the foremost hospitals in North America. It was a pleasure for me to collaborate with him on a project to determine attenuation coefficients of gamma rays in tissue. This work was subsequently published. In another project, we studied the feasibility of using a coded aperture for diagnostic imaging. Such apertures are used to form X-ray images of astronomical sources. We felt that the device might allow imaging to be carried out using less radiation intensities than are needed for pin-hole imaging. A mosaic of plastic and lead squares was constructed and we succeeded in reconstructing an image of a thyroid phantom.
First, Computed Tomography (CT) paper was focused on the caudate nucleus and the need to develop quantitative characterization of it in schizophrenia research. Second paper published in Medical Physics, described the dependence of the left ventricular ejection fraction calculation on the background correction in gated cardiac blood pool studies. Josip displayed a solid practical and theatrical knowledge of medical physics and imaging processes. He was resourceful end innovated and contributed fully to our work. Without his contributions, the project could not have been successfully concluded. lt was good to have 'full' collaboration of departments of Psychiatry, Engineering, and Radiological Sciences and Medical Imaging of the University of Calgary.
Dr. Josip Nosil served as Medical Physicist in the department lo Radiologic Sciences and Diagnostic Imaging from October 1978 to October 1986.
His detailed knowledge of technology and thorough acceptance testing proved invaluable during equipment selection and installation. His grasp of the significance to physics principles in imaging, therapy and patient care made him a helpful consultant. His fastidious approach to quality assurance and radiation safety gave assurance that these aspects were carefully addressed. His insightful and novel approach to problems, led to interesting ideas and innovative solutions.
